In-Person ProgramProgram Description
Are you curious about native plants and why they matter? Join us for a fun and informative session that will open your eyes to the beauty and importance of native plants!
You’ll discover:
- Why native plants are essential for pollinators like bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
- How to spot native plants and grow them successfully in your own space.
- Tips for creating a vibrant, low-maintenance pollinator garden at home.
Plus, attendees will take a guided tour of the library’s brand-new Prairie on the Patio Garden where they'll see real examples of native plants in action and get inspired! A limited number of native plant starters will be available for attendees to take home. (First come, first served. One plant starter per person.)
People of all ages are welcome to attend. Children should plan to attend with their caregiver.
BPL’s Prairie on the Patio was made possible through grant funding from Illinois Prairie Community Foundation. Thank you IPCF and Wild Ones Illinois Prairie Chapter for helping make this garden dream a reality.

Hearing Device Assistance
To accommodate hard-of-hearing patrons, the library offers the use of assistive listening devices in each Community Room and in each Children’s Program Room. For these devices to work, the presenter must use the room’s sound system. For the clearest sound, make sure the device is unobstructed by clothing or jewelry and sit in the first few rows.
If you experience connectivity issues, please let a staff member know. A guide on using the assistive listening devices is available.
