Program Description

This October, Bloomington Public Library is issuing a challenge to any teen who would like to develop or improve their digital art skills. Each week throughout October, participants will receive a prompt that they can then draw using digital art software like GIMP, a free image manipulation tool which can be used to create digital art and more. (Visit gimp.org/downloads/ to download GIMP.)

Teens who'd like to get a feel for digital art and GIMP are encouraged to attend the library's Digital Artober Kickoff event on Monday, October 3 from 6-8pm. Register for the kickoff event at: Digital Artober Kickoff

For each prompt-inspired piece of art submitted (up to a maximum of 4 entries), participants will receive an entry into a random drawing where two winners will receive WACOM Intuos tablets. Prompts will be available on the TeenZone Instagram page. If you would like the prompts emailed to you, contact Olivia at oliviab@bloomingtonlibrary.org. To enter into the grand prize drawing, use the #DigitalArtoberBPL hashtag on Instagram or email your artwork to Olivia. Submitted images may be added to Instagram. Submissions must be received by the end of the day on October 30. Winners will be drawn on October 31.

All you need to participate is a computer. However, if you would like to try your hand using a digital art tablet, one will be available for use on a first-come-first-served basis in the TeenZone at the library. It will be available in one-hour shifts. Bring your library card or alternate ID to the TeenZone Desk and ask to use the digital art tablet. Instruction on how to use the tablet is dependent on staff availability and not guaranteed. Contact oliviab@bloomingtonlibrary.org with questions.

Participants can also discuss their progress and artwork with other teens in the project-space channel on our TeenZone Discord Server. For a link to the Discord server, email techprogramming@bloomingtonlibrary.org.
