Program Description

Ramadhan & Fasting 101

Ramadhan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and the holy month of fasting, is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and giving back to the community. Determined according to the lunar calendar, Ramadhan can fall in any season of the year. Fasting occurs from sunrise to sunset. Those unable to fast, such as pregnant and nursing women, the sick, elderly people, and children, are exempt from fasting. The Ramadhan fast is considered one of the Five Pillars of Islam, and the end of the fast is celebrated as one of the important religious holidays, known as Eid al Fitr.
