Program Description
Women's History Month comes alive during this unique, immersive pop-up event!
Local playwrights and actors from Nomad Theatre will perform scenes involving famous women throughout history. Performers will be stationed throughout the library on both floors, and they'll be ready to teach you about these incredible women. Directed by Kathleen Kirk.
The historical women being portrayed include the following:
- Mary Wollstonecraft (1759-1797)—feminist philosopher
- Mary Shelley (1797-1851)—writer of Frankenstein
- Josephine Baker (1906-1975)—dancer, spy, activist
- Jane Goodall (1934-2025)—primatologist and anthropologist
- Maria Sibylla Merian (1647-1717)—naturalist and artist (scientific illustrator)
- Claudette Colvin (1939-2026)—Civil Rights activist
- Jane Addams (1860-1935)—social worker and world peace advocate
- Sally Ride (1951-2012)—astronaut
- Tammi Terrell (1945-1970)—Motown singer
- Sophie Scholl (1921-1943)—Hitler youth turned anti-Nazi
The live production portrayals of Claudette Colvin and Tammi Terrel complement the library's Bloomington Reads programming series and its spotlight title "The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat".
