Share Mueller's insight into the how and where of the Normandy Invasion. This program's main focus will be on the lives of the men responsible for the success of the risky endeavor we call D-Day. The men featured are from the U.S. 1st and U.S. 29th Infantry Divisions in the initial assault waves and the 2nd Ranger Battalion. They were responsible for capturing the German gun positions at Pointe du Hoc. Period photographs show what the terrain was like in 1944, and contemporary photographs show these battle sites today. We'll also visit Normandy American Cemetery, site of the bloodiest fighting and now a tribute to these men’s sacrifices.
Robert J Mueller has written six visitor guides to the battlefields of Northern Europe and Hawaii under the Fields of War imprint. The titles have garnered eleven national book awards, including being twice honored by the Military Writers Society of America. He has delivered more than 270 in-person and virtual one-hour-long battlefield presentations to describe the places and the people who dictated the battle’s outcome. He holds advanced degrees in physics and business administration, following military service in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during the Vietnam era.
