Program Description

American Vacation with Author Raluca Barbu

The Library is excited to host local Illinois author Raluca Barbu, for a virtual event about her newly published book, American Vacation: 12,000 Miles Into the Wild West. The book is an homage to the great American outdoors. It is the first book to tell the story of a writer from an ex-communist country who experienced the great outdoors of the American West.

Raluca and her husband traveled 12,000 miles over 45 days across 19 states. They visited 35 national, state, and tribal parks and hiked 170 miles through breath-taking natural landmarks, from 260 feet below sea level to 14,000 feet of altitude.

Raluca will share her travel adventures and writing experiences, read from her book, answer questions, and share a 15-minute presentation of high-quality photos taken during the trip. At the end of the program, we’ll host a quiz. The winner will win a signed copy of Raluca’s book!

Registration for this program can be completed online below. You may also register by calling 309.590.6168 or by visiting the Adult Services Desk at the Library and registering in person. As soon as registration is complete, you will receive an email with a link to access the online discussion.
