Program Description

1000 Hours Outside: Kickoff & StoryWalk

Challenge your family to spend 1000 hours outside this year! The library's Children's Services staff will also be challenging themselves and will host a variety of activities throughout the year to keep us all on track. At the end of the year, there will be a finale party – with prizes – for families who attempt the challenge!

Get started by heading to Miller Park Pavilion from 4-6pm on Tuesday, January 17, for our 1000 Hours Outside Kickoff event. There, you’ll be able to pick up a tracking log, participate in a winter clothing swap (no need to bring anything to take something), play games, and enjoy our newest StoryWalk® (available all week).

Bloomington Public Library and Bloomington's Parks and Recreation Department are pleased to offer this cooperative program.

StoryWalks® have been installed in 50 states and 14 countries, including Germany, Canada, England, Bermuda, Russia, Malaysia, Pakistan and South Korea! StoryWalk® was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and was developed with the help of Rachel Senechal, Kellogg-Hubbard Library.

1000 Hours Outside is a program created by Virginia Yurich. To find out more about the program, visit 1000 hours outside.
