In June 2012, Library volunteers worked to launch the Book Shoppe in the lower lobby of the Bloomington Public Library. The Book Shoppe carries adult and children's books, CD's, DVD's, and some Blu Rays with prices ranging from $1-$6. All items in the Shoppe have either been withdrawn from the Library's collection or were donated by community members and Library supporters. The Shoppe is run by volunteers who contribute more than 100 volunteer hours per month. Some people volunteer individually while others volunteer as part of a group. Proceeds from the Book Shoppe help pay for Library programs including, but not limited to, the annual Summer Reading program, Bloomington Reads, and Dia de Los Niño's/Dia de Los Libros.
Due to COVID-19, donations are not being accepted at this time. For more information on COVID-19 procedures, please refer to the latest details here. Bloomington Public Library volunteers accept donations of gently used books and materials between 10am-1pm on the second Saturday of each month. When pulling into the parking lot, those wishing to donate are asked to make an immediate left toward the overhang. There, volunteers will help unload books and materials from vehicles. Donated materials are sold with proceeds benefiting Bloomington Public Library. Occasionally, donated items are added to Bloomington Public Library's collection.
If you or a group you are part of would like to volunteer in the Book Shoppe, please email :
Individual volunteers are needed to stock the shop and manage overstock. Volunteer groups are needed to help collect and sort materials on donation days.
