Our Outreach Services coordinates the majority of the Library's activities that occur outside the Main Library's physical locale, including the Bookmobile, Home Delivery Service, and Deposit Collections. We also provide Golden Prairie Public Library District residents with special programs throughout the year. Continually expanding and evolving to meet the needs of our community, Outreach Services has grown to encompass a number of services for those with special needs.
A library on wheels, the Bookmobile currently visits 48 stops every three weeks in the city of Bloomington and the Golden Prairie Public Library District which contracts with Bloomington Public Library for services to its residents.
The Bookmobile weighs 33,000 pounds, is 32.5 feet long, is 12.25 feet tall, and serves as a resource for all ages. This mobile library is stocked with approximately 3,000 items each time it ventures out to make its stops. Bookmobile customers have access to a popular collection of bestselling fiction, seasonal nonfiction, music, feature films, and video games. Available formats for these materials run the gamut from hardback books, to paperbacks books, to large print books, to magazines, to audiobooks, to blu-ray discs, to DVDs, to CDs.
The loan period for all items checked out on the Bookmobile is three weeks, and items found at the main Library may be put on hold by a Bookmobile customer to be brought to and checked out at a Bookmobile stop.
Customers who live within Bloomington's city limits or in the Golden Prairie Library District may obtain a library card from the Bookmobile at no charge. Customers are also able to renew expired library cards and replace lost cards while on the Bookmobile. (There is a $2 fee for the replacement of lost cards).

Yes, you can. To renew your materials, click on "ACCOUNT LOGIN" on the Library's homepage or call the library at 309.590.6120. Items cannot be renewed if someone else has a hold on them or if they have been renewed three times already.
Everything is due in three weeks, which is the time between Bookmobile stops. If a holiday occurs on the day of your stop, materials will be checked out to you for six weeks.

You may pick up a paper schedule at any Bookmobile stop or at the library. If you'd like to receive a paper copy of the Bookmobile schedule in the mail, call 309-590-6120.
Yes, they are available. If you are at the library, the staff at the Check Out Desk can get the items for you. If you are at home, call the library to request that the materials be held for you at the Check Out Desk (as long as the item is not currently offsite at a bookmobile stop).
No, they are not. The Bookmobile carries a large amount of items, but there are many more that are kept in our Outreach workroom. If you want a specific item, call the library to request it or place a hold using our online system. We wouldn't want you to waste your time tracking down the Bookmobile at a stop only to learn that the item you want is not on the vehicle.
