The Bloomington Public Library seeks to support and educate Illinois residents, caretakers and professionals on the medical and social aspects of Alzheimer’s Disease and other memory-related conditions. We also seek to provide resources to individuals and their families struggling with the impacts of memory loss.
Memory Care Collection
Bloomington Public Library’s Memory Care Collection consists primarily of print books and DVDs aimed to support dementia patients, caregivers and medical professionals throughout the varying stages of this life-altering disease. This collection includes: informational resources for dementia patients, caregivers and professionals; books for kids with family members suffering from dementia; biographies and memoirs; activity books; and, reading materials for dementia patients.
To view the materials in our Memory Care Collection, click here, select “more search options” and in the Collections box select “Memory Care.” BPL also offers a variety of other materials that can help stimulate memory, provide enjoyment and entertainment, and reduce nervousness, stress and anxiety.
Large Print Materials The library has a comprehensive collection of both fiction and non-fiction titles in Large Print Format. A listing of these materials can be found in our online catalog. To view the materials in our Large Print Collection, click here.
Deposit Collections The library brings small, rotating collections of materials to retirement communities and senior centers, in order to reach individuals who cannot visit the library in person. Visit the Deposits page for more information on this service.
Home Delivery Service If you cannot visit the Library, and are a Bloomington or Golden Prairie Public Library District resident, you are eligible for Home Delivery Service. Visit our Home Delivery page for more information on this service that will bring you library materials once a month.
Bookmobile? The Bookmobile visits 48 stops every three weeks in the city of Bloomington and the Golden Prairie Public Library District. The loan period for all items checked out on the Bookmobile is three weeks, and items found at the main Library may be put on hold by a Bookmobile customer to be brought to and checked out at a Bookmobile stop.
