A History of Women's Underwear

In Partnership with the 2021 Cogs and Corsets Steampunk Festival, join Susan Hartzold, Curator of Collections and Exhibits at the McLean County Museum of History, for a fascinating, illustrated program about what gets put on underneath women’s clothes! Have you ever wondered about the history, purpose, and meaning of women's undergarments?  Well, here's your chance to get a revealing peek at what's been worn beneath female outer garments through the centuries and the not so hidden meanings they sometimes communicated.

Registration is required and can be completed at bit.ly/Cogs21Upon registration, you'll receive a Zoom link to this online program. If you need assistance with registration, contact the Library's Adult Services Desk at 309.590.6168.

The Cogs & Corsets festival takes place throughout six square blocks of historic Downtown Bloomington. This area is home to over 90 shops, galleries, and restaurants… many in historic buildings with ties to Abraham Lincoln. The galleries will be featuring local artists’ new work and even hosting visiting artists whose pieces exude that Steampunk vibe. The McLean County Museum of History will once again play a key role in the Festival.
Save the date: June 4, 2021.
