Your library card is your ticket to take items home and to use public computers. Even if you do not have a library card, you may use library books or magazines while you are at the library. In order to check out and take home books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, or audio books you must show your library card. In order to use the library’s public use computers you must show your library card. The Bloomington Public Library honors library cards from Normal Public Library as well as cards from many libraries throughout central Illinois. How to get a library card:To apply for your library card, please provide a photo ID with proof of current Bloomington residence and visit the library to fill out a brief application. Examples of acceptable identification are driver's license, voter registration card, checkbook, or utility bill. Children (0-11) and teens (12-16) fill out an application and have it signed by a parent or legal guardian. A Bloomington Public Library card is issued free of charge to anyone living within the city limits of Bloomington or Golden Prairie Public Library District. The Golden Prairie Public Library District encompasses the following townships: Old Town, Arrowsmith, Dale, Dawson, and Bloomington. When a person lives in an area of McLean County that does not have access to public library service, a library card from the Bloomington Public Library may be purchased for $150 for one year.
