Sesquicentennial Celebration of Lincoln's Election

At the Library
Leading up to the event (from July 24-August 2), the library will offer repeat and daily viewings of three Lincoln-related recordings on the Library’s lower-level plasma TV. Included are: Lincoln, Prelude to the Presidency, a WILL production; A. Lincoln, Attorney at Law; and The Pantagraph Presents Lincoln’s in Town!
On July 31, the Library will make available:
- re-enactors on the Library lawn including: Jefferson Davis, a Confederate soldier and the Tri-Valley re-enactors
- a 10:45 a.m. one-hour presentation by an Elizabeth Todd impersonator
- visits with Abraham and Mary Lincoln impersonators
- a make-it-and-take-it craft, an Abe Medallion, for children visiting our Children’s Department
- a Civil War flag craft for Teens who visit the TeenZone area
- a photo/costume contest from 12-3 p.m. Those who show up at the Library dressed in period costume will have their photo taken by a member of our Adult Services staff (upper level). Photos taken will be entered into a photo contest which will be judged by Library users from August 2-August 7. Voting will end on August 7 at the close of the Library’s Summer Reading Party in the Park at Miller Park. Photos taken will be entered in either the 0-12 year-old category or the 13 years+ category. A Lincoln book will be awarded to one winner in each category. Winners will be notified on August 9
