The library offers many programs for all ages.
- Programs in black are for adults.
- Programs in pink are for children.
- Programs in purple are for teens.
- Programs in orange are for all ages.
Registration is generally not required, unless noted under the description. If registration is being taken, you can register online (if form is provided) or call the number listed under the description.

- Tuesday, September 7
- College Q&A Night
At 7 p.m., Adam Clark of the Illinois Student Assistance Corps will answer questions about college finances and more in the Bloomington Public Library Community Room.
- Wednesday, September 8
- Professional Women’s Book Club
The Professional Women’s Book Club will meet every other month at noon in the Bloomington Public Library Community Room. In September we will be discussing Womenomics: Write Your Own Rules for Success by Claire Shipman and Katty Kay.
- Thursday, September 9
- Tween Scene: Going Green
Tweens age 9-13 are invited to jump on the environmental bandwagon this fall when we’ll be creating recycled treasures, sharing “green” snacks, and participating in some lively discussion with new friends. Don’t forget to bring some of your own recycled materials for each 6:30-8 p.m. session in the Library’s Community Room. No registration is required. On September 9, participants are asked to bring along brown paper bags.
- Saturday, September 11
- Second Saturday Family Stories
Second Saturday Family Stories will meet at 11 a.m. in the Story Room. Kids of all ages will enjoy stories, songs and finger plays. A parent or caregiver needs to accompany children.
- Model Trains on Display
Stop by the Bloomington Public Library Story Room any time between 1 & 4 p.m. to view a model train set owned by local model train enthusiast Brian Huang of the Twin City O-Scalers. Huang will display his O-scale train at the Library and will answer questions. Please remember that some of the items on Brian’s train set are fragile, so look with your eyes, but please don’t touch.

- Second Monday Story Club
The Second Monday Story Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Bloomington Public Library Story Room. Children in first, second and third grades will enjoy stories, poetry and activities.
- Teen Tech Book Club
Are you interested in robots and future technology? BPL’s new Teen Tech Book Club will meet once per month in the Tech Lab to talk about a book with a technological theme. After discussing the book we’ll explore the world of modern technology. Today we’ll be discussing Uglies by Scott Westerfeld at 7 p.m. in the Bloomington Public Library Tech Lab.

- Lapsit for Infants
Lapsit for Infants will take place at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. in the Story Room at the Bloomington Public Library. Enjoy 30 minutes of lap bouncing, nursery rhymes, musical activities, and play time for those who fall into the newborn-18-months-old age range. Please make arrangements for older siblings.
- Open Lab for Computer Assistance
Could you use some assistance when it comes to using a computer? Let our librarians help you. Bring your specific questions to our team in the Tech Lab, and let’s get to work.
Today’s open lab will run from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
- Anime Now
Watch anime films and series so new that most have not yet been shown in our area. Teens and adults are invited to join us on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Bloomington Public Library Community Room where we will view and discuss anime.
- Mystery Book Club
Under the Magnifying Glass, the Bloomington Public Library’s mystery book club, will meet at 7 p.m. in the Bloomington Public Library Community Room. Whose Body? by Dorothy Sayers will be discussed.

- Preschool Storytime
Preschool Storytime will meet at 10 a.m. in the Story Room at Bloomington Public Library. This 30-minute program will help your 3- to 5-year-old build independent listening skills.
- New Release Movie Nights
Missed it in the theater? Not sure you want to buy it on DVD? The Library is the place to go! On Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m., BPL will be showing the newest and hottest DVD movie which was released just the day before. Every showing is free, and so is the popcorn. Titles will be determined as movie release dates are made available.

Toddler Time will meet at 10 a.m. in the Bloomington Public Library Story Room. Toddlers age 19 to 35 months will enjoy stories, songs, rhymes and movement activities with a parent or grandparent.

- Story Times at Eastland Mall
BPL children’s librarians will entertain kids with stories, finger plays, and songs at 10 a.m. on the third Friday of the month on the carpeted area near Mr. Field’s Cookies at Eastland Mall.

- Stamp Collecting with Mr. Stamps
School-aged children interested in stamp collecting are invited to attend and learn more about this fascinating hobby from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Bloomington Public Library Story Room.

The Bloomington Public Library’s fiction book club — Bloomington Bookies — will meet at 7 p.m. at the Lincoln Leisure Center to discuss The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. Dessert and beverages will be provided. Books are available at the library’s reference desk.

- Trial of the Big Bad Wolf
At 11 a.m. in the Bloomington Public Library Community Room, the voice and piano students of Phyllis Griffin will present a musical version of The Trial of the Big Bad Wolf. The musical is set in the rock ‘n roll 1950s with a Fonze-like character playing the wolf. The wolf is being tried for his crimes by the Three Little Pigs, Red Riding Hood, Peter, and the Boy Who Cried Wolf. Join us for this fun, musical play!
- Teen Gamefest
We’ll be setting up our gaming systems for you and your friends from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Bloomington Public Library Community Room. Spend a couple hours playing games, watching others or just hanging out. It’s like being in your own basement, but with more popcorn.

- Carlos Eire visits Bloomington-Normal
Bloomington Public Library will partner with Normal Public Library and Illinois State University’s Milner Library to bring Carlos M. N. Eire, author and former B-N resident, to the area today. Waiting for Snow in Havana, Eire’s most notable title, will be read by ISU’s incoming freshman class. The book is Eire’s memoir of the Cuban Revolution. It has been translated into 13 languages worldwide.
Eire’s next book, Learning to Die in Miami: Confessions of a Refugee Boy, will be released in November. In this book are several chapters about Eire’s time spent in Bloomington.
The day’s lineup includes:
- 2-3 p.m. - Eire will conduct a public Q&A session in the Bloomington Public Library Community Room.
- 5-6:30 p.m. - There will be an invitation-only reception at Normal Public Library. (Free parking will be available in the College Avenue parking deck. Those attending the reception will receive reserved seating for Eire’s presentation at Braden Auditorium and free parking at the Bone Student Center).
- 7 p.m. - The public is invited as Eire gives an author presentation at ISU’s Braden Auditorium.
