The library offers many programs for all ages.

  • Programs in purple are for teens.
  • Programs in orange are for all ages.

Registration is generally not required, unless noted under the description. If registration is being taken, you can register online (if form is provided) or call the number listed under the description.

  • Monday, February 6
    • AARP Tax Assistance
      Through April 17, on various weekdays, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., you can bring your tax information to the Library's Community Room where a qualified AARP volunteer from AARP Tax-Aide will assist you in filling out and filing your tax forms. Neither age nor income restrictions are placed on this assistance.
    • Teen Advisory Board
      The Teen Advisory Board will meet at 6 p.m. in teenZone. All teens are invited to help be a part of teen library activities by joining the board. Whether it's playing games, talking about the Library, or having book discussions, there's always a new way to get involved.
  • Tuesday February 7
    • Open Lab for Computer Assistance
      Could you use some assistance when it comes to using a computer? Let our librarians help you. Bring your specific questions to our team in the Quiet Reading Room between 1 & 4 p.m., and let's get to work.
    • FAFSA Workshop
      Kevin McKenzie of the Illinois Student Assistance Commission will lead an informational FAFSA presentation at 6 p.m. in the Community Room. He will discuss the Financial Aid Process and then assist those who would like help filling out the online FAFSA form. Come armed with questions and a laptop (or use one of ours).
    • History Reads Book Club
      In partnership with the McLean County Museum of History, this book club focuses on reading books dealing with Illinois history and may include fiction, nonfiction, biography, or local history. Books by local or other Illinois authors may also be included. This group will meet quarterly in February, May, August, and November. Join us tonight at 7 p.m. in the Governor Fifer Courtroom on the 2nd Floor of the McLean County Museum of History. In February, we'll be discussing Lincoln by David Herbert Donald.
  • Wednesday, February 8
    • AARP Tax Assistance
      Through April 17, on various weekdays, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., you can bring your tax information to the Library's Community Room where a qualified AARP volunteer from AARP Tax-Aide will assist you in filling out and filing your tax forms.     • Preschool Storytime
      Preschool Storytime will meet at 10 a.m. in the Story Room at Bloomington Public Library. Help your 3- to 5-year-old build independent listening skills with this weekly 30-minute story time for preschoolers.
    • Classic Movies
      Join us at 2 p.m. in the Community Room where we'll be watching a classic movie. Today we'll be watching "On Moonlight Bay," starring Dorris Day and Gordon MacRae.
    • Nearly New Movie Series
      On Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m., BPL shows the newest and hottest DVD movie in the Library's collection. Meet us in the Community Room at 6:30 p.m. (movies sometimes start earlier if they have a longer run time). For titles being shown, call the Adult Services Desk at 828-6093 or email reference@bloomingtonlibrary.org. Tonight's showing begins at 6:30 p.m.

      Toddler Time will meet at 10 a.m. in the Bloomington Public Library Story Room. Toddlers age 19-to-35 months will enjoy stories, songs, rhymes and movement activities with a parent or grandparent.
    • LinkedIn Workshop for Beginners
      Do you have a LinkedIn account, but you're not sure what to do with it? As part of our Business and Libraries series, this beginner workshop will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room to focus on the benefits of creating a powerful personal profile on LinkedIn. This workshop will take your profile from the basic name and job listing to a powerful profile. A limited number of laptops will be available; people are encouraged to bring their own. Register by emailing robinh@bloomingtonlibrary.org or by calling 557-8944. Before this session, attendees should create an account on LinkedIn.

    • Rebecca Caudill Brown Bag Lunch
      You've read the books, now it's time to pick a winner! Kids in grades 4 through high school are invited to choose their favorite book from the 2012 Rebecca Caudill Young Readers' Book Award, grab a lunch from home, and meet us at noon in teenZone for a lively debate.
  • Saturday, February 11
    • Book Drive
      The Library will accept book donations from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in its lower level parking lot. A truck staffed by volunteers will be on hand to help unload your car and load out truck.
    • 2nd Saturday Family Stories
      During this 11 a.m. family story time, kids of all ages will enjoy stories, songs, and finger plays. A parent or caregiver needs to accompany children in our Story Room.
    • Downloading eBooks
      There are plenty of eBooks available at the Library – for free! This class will introduce you to downloading eBooks and AudioBooks to your device of choice. Please bring your own device (and laptop if you have one) and your specific questions. Laptops will also be set up in our Community Room for this program which will meet from 3-4:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, February 12
    • Putt with the Prose
      The Library will CLOSE to the public on Sunday, February 12, 2012, for our 3rd Annual Putt with the Prose fundraiser. Money raised will be used to purchase eBooks for our Children's Department. For $5 per person, golfers of all ages are welcome to play a round of Miniature Golf inside the Library. Door prizes will be given away throughout the event. Presale tickets will be sold from Jan. 8-Feb. 11, 2012, for $4 each. Tickets sold at the door will cost $5. If a business is interested in donating a door prize or sponsoring a hole, putters, goodie bags or a table during Putt with the Prose, please visit www.BloomingtonLibrary.org or email RhondaM@BloomingtonLibrary.org for information and prices.

      Anime Now meets from 4-5:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. If you're a fan of Japanese animation or find yourself reading all the latest mange, you'll want to join us in the Community Room on the following Tuesday afternoons to watch and talk about anime.
    • Mystery Book Club
      The Library's Mystery Book Club, meets at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month in the Library's Community Room. In February, we'll be discussing A Drunkard's Path: A Someday Quilts Mystery by Clare O'Donohue.

    • Facebook 101
      Do you want to connect with friends and family via Facebook but don't know how? Join us at 2:30 p.m. to learn how to set up a Facebook account, post to walls, and set your privacy settings. You'll have a chance to set up an account and interact with the site. If you have a personal laptop, bring it in. Registration is suggested by emailing lindsayb@bloomingtonlibrary.org or by calling 557-8947.
    • Teen GameFest
      Teen GameFest will take place every third Wednesday of the month from 4-5:30 p.m. Teens may join us for an afternoon of gaming. We'll set up lots of fun games in the Community Room complete with popcorn.

      School-aged children interested in stamp collecting are invited to attend and learn more about this fascinating hobby on the following Saturdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Library's Story Room.

    • Then to Now: Bloomington-Normal 1818-2012 (4-part series)
      Paul Holsinger will present a history of Bloomington-Normal in this four-part series. Today at 2 p.m. in the Community Room, we'll be discussing Bloomington & McLean County: The Early Years, 1818-1865. Holsinger is a Professor Emeritus of History at Illinois State University. These Sunday sessions are an excellent way to become familiar with our community's history.
  • Monday, February 20
    • American Girl Tea Party
      School-aged children are cordially invited to an American Girl Tea Party beginning at 11 a.m. in the Community Room. Put on your best, bring your favorite doll (of any kind), and be ready to have some fun! No tea party would be complete without crafts, games, snacks, and prizes. Mark your calendars; area schools are not in session on this day.

You'll learn to find others through searching; contact the person you just found using the Introduction function; expand your Networks; maximize your ability to find and be found by others; join groups; and find a job or a new employee.     • Spring in Your Step – Part I
      Get up and move! Join us at 11 a.m. in the Story Room for 30 minutes of musical fitness fun. The rhythms and movements of the warm-up section will lead us to a vigorous workout, and we'll finish with a cool down. You will leave with ideas to keep you active at home.
