Reading is fun. Sharing a book with others is even better! The library offers three regular book clubs for you to enjoy lively conversation with others about books. New members are welcome at any time. Ask a librarian at the Reference Desk to receive your copy of the book.
Bloomington Bookies – Fiction Book Club
This group meets monthly at 7 pm on the third or fourth Tuesday of the month at the Lincoln Leisure Center (1206 S. Lee). Dessert and beverages provided.

Under the Magnifying Glass – Mystery Book Club
Discuss who done it and learn about various sub-genres of mysteries with this monthly book group. Each quarter we’ll explore a different sub-genre. Sign up for your favorite topics or get introduced to mystery authors you’re not familiar with. This group meets at 7pm on the second Tuesday of the month at the library.
The Golden Age Mystery (1920-1947) – April, May, June
Explore the beginnings of the mystery genre with classic mystery titles
- April 8: The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammet
- May 13: The Murder of Roger Ackoryd by Agatha Christie
- June 10: The League of Frightened Men by Rex Stout
Police Procedural – July, August, September
This is one of the largest sub-genres of mysteries. We’ll explore the inner workings of the police force and compare and contrast with three of its leading authors.

Forensics - October, November, December
With the popularity of shows such as Bones and the C.S.I. franchise, forensics is the fastest growing sub genre in the mystery world. We’ll explore its beginnings with Patricia Cornwell, read a true account of the Body Farm and end with another popular forensic detective.
