Department: Circulation Position: Greeter & Materials Return Assistant
Description: Welcome library customers, assist customers with the return of their materials, and provide basic information with warmth, enthusiasm, and courtesy. Duties:
- Greet customers as they enter the library
- Assist customers in using the Check-In Station
- Collect and return library materials from the return bins
- Provide basic information to customer such as directional information
- Refer more difficult requests to the appropriate department
Department: Outreach Services Position: Home Delivery Service Driver
Are you a “people person” who’d like to bring smiles to people in need? If so, you may be a perfect fit as a Home Delivery Service volunteer. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and must be a high school graduate.
Duties of the Home Delivery Service Driver volunteer include:
- Pick up canvas bags of materials for each Home Delivery customer on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis
- Using your personal vehicle, deliver these materials throughout Bloomington
- Drop off new materials and pick up return items from the previous delivery
- Briefly talk with the customer, answer their questions, and take requests for materials
- Return materials to the library
- Other duties as assigned
Department: Outreach Services Position: Home Delivery Service Selector and Driver
Do you like to read and talk about books? Do you like helping others? This volunteer opportunity combines both of these interests. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and must be a high school graduate.
Duties of the Home Delivery Service Selector and Driver volunteer include:
- Using information provided by the customer, select materials to be checked out and taken to the customer
- Update an Excel database listing materials sent to the customer
- Check out materials to the customer in the online catalog, Sirsi
- Place items in a canvas bag
- Using your personal vehicle, deliver these materials to the customer’s home in Bloomington
- Drop off new materials and pick up return items from the previous delivery
- Visit with the customer for a few minutes
- Return materials to the library
- Other duties as assigned
Department: Outreach Services Position: Deposit Collection Delivery
Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity that may involve using a little muscle? If so, our Deposit Collection Delivery volunteer position may be right up your alley. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and must be a high school graduate.
Duties of the Deposit Collection delivery volunteer include:
- Pick up rubber tubs of materials for each Deposit Collection site on a regular schedule
- Using your personal vehicle, deliver these materials throughout Bloomington
- Drop off new materials and pick up return items from the previous delivery
- Return materials to the library
- Other duties as assigned
Department: Adult Services Position: Collection Development Advisor
Are you fluent in Hindi and English and willing to provide advisory services for the good of our East Indian customers? If so, the library has an opportunity for you.
Duties include:
- Availability on an as-needed basis
- Suggest books, music and music of interest to East Indian customers
- Assist in translating material from Hindi into English in support of library processing and cataloging
Department: Adult Services Position: Collection Development Advisor
Are you fluent in Spanish and English and willing to provide advisory services for the good of our Hispanic customers? If so, the library has an opportunity for you.
Duties include:
- Availability on an as-needed basis
- Suggest books, music and music of interest to Hispanic customers
- Assist in translating material from Spanish into English in support of library processing and cataloging
Department: Adult Services Position: Shelf Maintenance Assistant
A place for everything and everything in its place…
If you’re a stickler for organization, our Shelf Maintenance Assistant volunteer position may be for you.
Duties of the Shelf Maintenance Assistant include:
- Assist Adult Services and Children’s librarians with retrieving library material for customers
- Search shelves upstairs
- Pull items from lower level areas (AV, Circulation, outreach, etc.)
- Create and restock displays
- Return items in Browsing areas
- Return books, clipping file envelopes, and microfilm in Illinois Collection area
- Other duties and special projects as assigned
