Music
The music collection at Bloomington Public Library contains more than 6,000 CDs.
- You may check out up to 20 CDs at a time.
- All CDs are FREE to check out!
- All CDs check out for three weeks. Late fees are 10 cents per day, up to a maximum fine of $5.
- CDs may be reserved and renewed. Both of these services are free. You can renew and reserve movies in person, by phone, or in the catalog. Items are only renewed if no one else has the item on hold.
The collection is arranged by musical genre in the following categories:
- Country
- Ethnic and World Music
- Holiday
- Inspirational
- Jazz and R&B
- Soundtracks
- Orchestral
- Popular
- Rap
For browsing purposes, each genre section contains CDs arranged alphabetically by artist’s last name.
How to search for music in the catalog
To search for a single CD title or specific musical group
On the main catalog search page, enter the CD title in the search box and choose the title button under the search box. If the search is for a specific person or musical group, enter their name in the search box and choose the words or phrase button.

To search for a specific song
If you want to find a specific song, enter the name of the song in the catalog search box and choose the words or phrase button.

How to search for a type of music
- If you are looking for all the CDs in a specific genre, click on “Power Search” on the catalog search screen (located in lower center – circled in red)

- On the resulting Advanced Search screen, fill in the fields as shown below (our example is country):
- First drop down menu “words or phrases” type: country
- You can type any music genre in the “words and phrase” box, such as jazz or country or soundtrack
- Fifth bold option “location” (below Search & Reset buttons) choose “Music CDs” from the list.
