When a Bloomington Public Library cardholder wants material that is not available within Bloomington Public Library, we ask other agencies to provide it. This is the process of interlibrary loan.
You may now request Interlibrary Loans online. Please use the Interlibrary Loan form to begin your request.
The Bloomington Public Library will borrow and loan material to libraries in the United States. These items include books, magazine article photocopies, audio books on cassette, CD or MP3 that are older than one year, music on CD older than one year, and VHS tapes. DVDs & Blu-rays older than one year will be loaned and borrowed in-state only. The library will also borrow microfilm on request.
At this time, the library does not borrow text books or system games. Some items are difficult to borrow; these include, but are not limited to: new books, reference materials, and rare or fragile items.
Materials borrowed through interlibrary loan have a circulation period of two weeks. The ability to renew interlibrary loan items is determined by the lending library. DVD's have a no renewal policy.
Just as with regular library materials, customers are financially responsible for any damage or loss of interlibrary loan items, including fines when items are kept overdue. All overdue ILL materials will accrue fines at $1.00 a day per item, until material is returned.
Customers may have a maximum of 15 holds on their library card at any time. Interlibrary loan requests are treated as holds and count within this hold queue.
The service is free, but some libraries charge a fee to loan their materials. If that's the case, the customer is notified before obtaining the item.
